Sterling hadn't just built a nursery; he'd built a tomb. He wasn't going to let the Feds find the source. He was going to bury the evidence under a million tons of Big Sur rock.

"We have to go!" I yelled, pulling Maya to her feet.

I whistled for Titan. The dog shook his head, groggily getting to his feet, his tail giving a weak wag when he saw me.

We ran.

We sprinted through the white hallways, past the glass rooms where the children were now waking up from their trances, confused and terrified.

"Open the doors, Maya!" I shouted. "You know the override!"

We burst out into the cold night air, a sea of children in white pajamas spilling out onto the bridge.

I stood at the edge of the bridge, counting the children as they crossed. Maya stood next to me, her hand gripping mine so hard it hurt.

Ten. Fifty. A hundred.

The lighthouse began to tilt, the earth beneath it liquefying.

"Is that all of them?" Maya asked, her face pale in the moonlight.

"I think so," I said.

We ran across the bridge just as the steel cables snapped. The bridge fell into the churning Pacific with a roar of twisted metal and crashing waves.

Seconds later, the entire finger of land imploded.

The lighthouse vanished. The "Nursery" was gone. The white rooms, the machines, and the blueprints for the Ouroboros Syndicate were buried forever under the cold, dark water.
